With roots deeply embedded in UK sound system culture, Jay Holder’s connection to underground music, especially drum and bass, runs deep. Originally a soul and funk selector since the early ‘80s, he cut his teeth crate-digging, spinning on pirate radio, and playing legendary warehouse parties during the acid house revolution. These early years laid the foundation for a lifelong journey through electronic music, shaped by culture, community, and pure sound system energy.
In the early '90s, he became a regular fixture in the Midlands rave scene, performing for the renowned Amnesia House and earning a coveted residency at Coventry’s legendary Eclipse Nightclub. There, he played alongside scene pioneers including Fabio & Grooverider, Jumping Jack Frost, Doc Scott, Neil Trix (FBD Project), and house legends Parks & Wilson.
Jay’s passion for the culture extended beyond the decks where he worked alongside Neil Trix and DJ Luke at the influential Midlands record store and label Bang-In-Tunes, helping shape the sound of a generation.
Recent sets have seen Jay share lineups with David Rodigan, Shy FX, Roni Size, and Doc Scott, with performances across the Midlands and a guest appearance at the Sandlyon for the Bassdrive sessions at the iconic Sun and Bass Festival in Sardinia.
Jay is also the co-founder of Bass Collective, a fast-rising DnB night uniting selectors and producers under one roof. On the production front, he has collaborated with LJ High (Bassdrive/MAC II Records), including remix work on the track “Falling High” for Audio Glider’s 2021 album “Kill Yer Idles.”
